About the book:
Tess and Arlo have made a happy life on St Mira. But the island is not immune to the forces reshaping the world. When a far-right government surges to power, foreigners are their first target. It's time for Tess and Arlo to leave. But what if it's too late?'
A poignant, prescient tale for our times about the dangers ahead and the decisions facing us all.
Aidan Cottrell-Boyce: "The Accidental Immigrants is a triumph: ferociously political and yet deeply personal, it is a soaring feat of the imagination, tethered firmly to the here and now."
Jo McMillan's first novel Motherland won an Arts Council Individual Literature Award and was published by John Murray in 2015.The Happiness Factory, her second novel, was published by Bluemoose in 2022. The Accidental Immigrants is published in January 2025.
