About this Event
The Jerusalem Fund invites you to a book launch, poetry reading, and signing with Palestinian American poet Samar Najia for her new collection, Yamma, Yaba: Oh Mother, Oh Father.Written as testimony to the ongoing Nakba in Palestine, Yamma, Yaba gives voice to survival, inconsolable grief, and justified rage.
These poems carry the cries of Palestinians calling for their mothers, fathers, children, homes, and families in their bleakest hours. In doing so, the collection bears witness to the destruction of home and heritage, and to the attempted rupture of the Palestinian family, one of the most sacred pillars of social life, memory, and belonging.
The evening will include readings from the collection, a conversation with Samar Najia about poetry, family, grief, and Palestinian testimony, and an audience Q&A. Copies of Yamma, Yaba will be available for purchase, and the author will sign books following the program.
