About this Event
You're invited to join us for a book club exploring how technology shapes our personal lives and the collective world around us.
Rachel Herring and Marina Romashko felt inspired to create an in-person space for learning, reflection, and inspiration. Our hope is simple: that with more knowledge, we can relate to technology with greater intention—using it more selectively, less reactively, and in ways that align with our values.
This book club is also born from another desire: to spend more time together in person, away from digital devices, building community face to face.
Our Intention To inspire each of us to prioritize digital well-being and to make empowered, informed choices about how we use technology.
Our First Book We’ll begin with by Ruha Benjamin.
“Ruha Benjamin’s Race After Technology is a deeply illuminating exploration of how racism isn’t just a relic of the past but is embedded into the very technologies shaping our present and future. She unpacks how algorithms, design choices, and systems that appear ‘neutral’ can actually reinforce inequality in hidden ways. What makes this book powerful is not only its rigorous analysis but also its invitation to rethink what progress really means. Rather than seeing technology as inevitable, Benjamin challenges us to imagine and design with equity, humanity, and intention at the center.”
You’re welcome to read the whole book or just the introduction—whatever feels realistic for your time and energy.

Rachel & Marina’s Story
Rachel Herring and Marina Romashko first connected over their shared passion for slowing down and recognizing how essential it is for our well-being in a world that constantly demands more.
We arrived at this truth from different perspectives:
- Rachel through her research on how phone and app design keeps us trapped in cycles of engagement and consumption.
- Marina, through my work as a mindfulness-based productivity coach, supporting clients who were caught in overachievement loops and never felt like they’d done enough.
When Marina came across Rachel’s workbook on redesigning your phone to reclaim your time and attention, she immediately reached out. One tea later, a creative partnership was born and from it, the online workshop: It’s Not You, It’s Your Phone came to life. Our next collaboration is book club.
✨ Come read with us, reflect with us, and imagine new possibilities for how we live with technology.
