About this Event

Bones and the aft are the musical incarnation of the Liver & Lights Scriptorium, John Bently’s long running chronicle of the ordinary people and things of London, past present and future. Champion of the seldom heard voice, bonesandtheaft is the DIY ethic personified: a home made band making home made music in home made costumes. sometimes described as Primal Rock Theatre. This is stark state-of-the-nation storytelling underpinned by virtuoso musicianship:

“…loud guitars and burbling synths, in unearthly correspondance with apocalyptic saxophone and dancing flute, descended more from the street ballad peddlars of yore than anything remotely contemporary………”

Fell is Nicolas Burrows, Jon Rulton, Matt de Kersaint Giraudeau and Dav Shiel. Fell’s songs are driven by Nicolas’s wry, off-kilter lyrics, considered vocal delivery and playful compositions: jangly guitar-pop and slow-burning pastoral folk sit alongside psychedelic freak-outs and krautrock rhythms. Nicolas’ intimate vocals float on top of woozy seaside organs and tape-wobbled guitars.

Fell’s first record, ‘There Still Are Mysteries’ was produced by Andy Ramsay of Stereolab and played extensively across BBC 6 Music. Currently signed to Lost Map, Fell’s ‘For The Pickling’ EP was released in 2019, produced by Peggy Sue/Landshapes’ Dan Blackett, featuring appearances by David Thomas Broughton and Luisa Gerstein of Deep Throat Choir. During 2020, Fell began ‘Sides’ - a singles project releasing two tracks at a time all the way from Side A up to Side Z…

Fell’s latest album, ‘Mallows Marsh’ was released by Lost Map Records on 20th January 2023. Mallows Marsh is Fell’s second full-length album – an ambitious, patchwork record full of mood shifts, flicking about lyrically through Anglo-Saxon healing charms, pastoral horror, horticultural M**der-ballads, mid-Brexit snapshots and ruminations on personal myth-making. Produced once again by Dan Blackett, the album features Welsh artist Bedwyr Wiliams and master saxophonist Steve Hamilton (Madness, Noel Gallagher), with arrangements by Sean O’ Hagan (The High Llamas).

“Beautiful, witty baroque pop ... very special indeed”
Lauren Laverne, BBC 6 Music
“I really really love his delivery; it’s incredibly personal…a beautiful voice”
Guy Garvey, BBC 6 Music
