We are pleased to host Dr. Benjamin E. Arenas for our fifth speaker in the Bonds That Matter seminar series.
About this Event

The series is designed to highlight the work of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) across the chemical sciences who hold intersectional identities. Our aim is to create a space where cutting-edge research and lived experiences are shared side by side.

All speakers are UK-based early-career chemical scientists within 8 years of their first academic appointment with intersectional identities. Join us as we hear their lived experiences and career journey whilst also connecting to peers through collaboration and networking. This event sponsored by Royal Society of Chemistry will be an in-person event.

Join us for a talk by Dr. Benjamin E. Arenas who is a Lecturer in Physical Chemistry Education at the University of Edinburgh. His research has a focus on education innovation and evaluation, and encompasses themes such as diverse and authentic assessment in practical chemistry courses, characterising and improving the inclusivity of learning environments, and enquiry-based learning in the teaching laboratory.

In his talk, Dr Arenas will give an overview of his slightly non-traditional career path, showcasing what he does in his current role at the University of Edinburgh and some of the chemistry education research work that he's performed over the past couple of years. He hopes to frame this in the context of his Filipino heritage, being the first in his immediate family to go to university in the UK, and his other international experiences. Whilst doing so, he will share some of the insights and lessons that he has learned along the way.
