No man is an island,Entire of itself;
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.

10.00 – 12.30 Body Weather training
Body Weather is a comprehensive approach to training and performance that investigates the intersections of bodies and their environments.
Bodies are conceived not as fixed and separate entities but as constantly changing - just like the weather. Weather is seen as a complex system of forces and influences coursing through and beyond bodies and the world.
As a training, Body Weather is of relevance to anyone interested in exploring the body and physical presence and this workshop is suited to dance, theatre & movement practitioners and artists of varied backgrounds.
13.30 – 16.30 No One is an Island
Deep relationality is at the core of Body Weather work. We are shaped by our relations to self, to others and to the world. This is not different for our dancing bodies. We are fed by our colleague’s movements and need their eyes to gain perspective on what it is we are doing, recognised habitual movement and find ways to expand our movement vocabulary. This workshop will provide tools to playfully explore the territory of connection and remaining in flux with others.
The term and philosophical basis for Body Weather was founded in the early 1980‘s by dancer Min Tanaka and further developed by Laboratories worldwide.
Frank van de Ven was a member of Tanaka’s Maijuku Performance Company in Japan, from 1983 - 1991. He co-founded Body Weather Amsterdam, a platform for training and performance. He has an ongoing commitment to the Body/Landscape projects conducted worldwide and since 1995 he has led the annual, inter-
disciplinary Bohemiae Rosa Project with Milos Sejn (Academy of Art and Design, Prague, Czech Republic), connecting body and landscape with art, geology and architecture. For many years he worked on the creative interaction of Theory and Practice in the Thought/Action performance projects with Peter Snow († June 2024) For more info on BWA see bodyweatheramster-dam.nl.
