About Viña Otano: The winery is family-oriented, directed by Oscar Montaña, grandson of the founder Don Román, and has a minimum of 105 hectares (it has recently acquired some more, always from old vines), basically in the Rioja Alta area.

The wines you already know well have a lot of expressiveness, a lot of fruit, but well balanced with a good aging process, and we think they offer competitive prices, for wines of a quality above average, and well recognized by critics.

Normally, clayey-calcareous soils, with an altitude between 500 and 650 meters, which is good in an appellation such as Rioja, and vineyards of a certain age, some already centenary, the oldest being from 1886.

The range is wide, offering young whites and rosés that are very easy to enjoy, a couple of whites with complexity and very good aging capacity (the Barrel Fermented and the highly awarded Gran Reserva) and a complete range of reds: Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva,, and a 100% Graciano that is very special. We also produce Magnums and larger bottles, some of which are several years old and of which there are hardly any units left, which we usually keep for Aurelio, knowing that in the USA they are appreciated more than in other markets.

About Ervigio: Regarding me, my name is Ervigio Adán Ruiz, I am 48 years old, and I am from Córdoba, although I have been in La Rioja for 20 years, the same as I have been in the world of wine, since my training is as an Industrial Engineer. My in-laws founded a winery in La Rioja together with other partners, and I took the opportunity to join the project, a time in which obviously I had to read a lot, ask a lot, taste many wines and even did a Master in Viticulture, Oenology and Wine Marketing Although, as I have really learned, it has been with time, desire, traveling a lot and opening many bottles.

I have been in this project for 5 years now, and I am mainly in charge of Export. In other phases of my life I have been closer to wines and their production, but having Isaac Fernández as winemaker and Oscar Montaña in the direction, my contribution in this field is not necessary and I try rather to help open the market and support As much as possible to the best importers, among whom there is no doubt is Aurelio, who is doing an incredible job in the United States.

Yes, I am a bit crazy about wines, and wherever I go I try as many of them as possible; it is the best way to continue learning, but in the end, the important thing is to relax and enjoy them, if possible, surrounded by friends.

About: Grapes of Spain, Inc. was established in November 2001, with its first container landing in the United States in Spring 2002, representing 8 producers. The company imports wines exclusively from Spain and currently represents 36 producers with a portfolio of 90+ wines from all corners of Spain. All of the wines are new to the U.S. market and are from family winegrowers who focus only on high quality and limited production. The Company's temperature-controlled warehouse is located in Lorton, Virginia, and all the wines are shipped from Spain to the warehouse in refrigerated containers. Our wines are currently represented in twenty-five states and the District of Columbia.AURELIO'S PHILOSOPHYMy goal is to look for gems regardless of Denominación de Origin, as there are equally exciting wines from Alicante, Pla de Bages, and Almansa as from Rioja, Ribera del Duero or Toro. It's not as if a wine's origin is unimportant; however, I'm not selling a D.O., I'm selling an individual wine. Another key to the style of wines in my portfolio is that many of the winemakers are young and talented, representing the new face of Spanish winemaking. They bring a new point of view to wine quality, as many have traveled internationally and have had a broad exposure to the world of wine. Furthermore, many of these winemakers are inheriting old vineyards, a further key to quality.I hand-select each wine, and my wines reflect the true personality, quality, and character of each vineyard, grape, and the people who make it. The wines are modern but not international, with a balance between fruit and oak, where oak frames fruit flavors. Concentration of fruit character comes from hard work in and understanding of the vineyard, not extraction during fermentation. Finesse, not exclusive of concentration of fruit, is paramount to the style of wines I seek to represent. I always search for wines that provide the best value for the money, whether at $10 per bottle or $100. Finally, I believe the wines in my portfolio represent an authentic expression of Spanish wine.ABOUT AURELIOAurelio Cabestrero, owner, is originally from Madrid, Spain. He worked at Madrid's Cafe de Oriente Restaurant for three years before coming to the US to work as a Sommelier for Taberna del Alabardero in Washington, DC. He worked at Taberna del Alabardero for three years and also worked as a Sommelier at Marcel's in Washington, DC, before pursuing his passion to import wines from his country, Spain.Aurelio has also won the Ruinart 1993 prize as the Best Sommelier in Spain, Best young Sommelier in 1994 by Wine and Gastronomic Magazine, and came in second place at the National Sopexa Competition of French Wines and Spirits 1994.
