About this Event
WRITERS IN THE SKY Everyone in the Skyway Has Killed Someone // Friday 1 November // 6:50pm - 7:30pm // Venue: Scenic World, Katoomba // Part of the 2024 Blue Mountains Writers' Festival
Delve deeper into poetry, community and all the ways we rise to a moment, with Wiradjuri poet Jazz Money, in conversation with award-winning Bundjalung illustrator, Charmaine Ledden-Lewis. Performing excerpts from their dazzling and impressive second collection, mark the dawn, Jazz considers the marks we gather and make. To record, to remember, to honour, to protest. We mark time, for no matter how many times the sun sets, always it rises in a new dawn.
Jazz Money is a Wiradjuri poet and artist based on Wangal land, Sydney. Their first poetry collection, the bestselling how to make a basket, was the 2020 winner of the David Unaipon Award, and their first feature film WINHANGANHA was commissioned by the National Film and Sound Archive. Their second collection mark the dawn is out in August 2024 from UQP.
Charmaine Ledden-Lewis is a proud Bundjalung woman and award-winning illustrator living on Dharug and Gundungurra Country. A Varuna board member, Charmaine regularly visits schools and communities to promote the benefits of art making and visual literacy. Some of the books Charmaine has illustrated include Found by Bruce Pascoe, Born to Run by Cathy Freeman, 2023 CBCA notable Charlie’s Swim by Edith Wright, and Ask Aunty: Seasons by Aunty Munya Andrews, which was shortlisted for the Wilderness Society’s 2024 Karajia Award.
