Like blues music? Haven’t heard of blues dancing? Come check it out with us, you won’t look back!
As always, we can’t wait to share more of our love for blues music and blues dance with you - so come join us Tuesdays at 19:30 for 5 classes over 5 weeks, from the 5th May. Our classes are accessible no matter your experience, and you don’t need a partner to join us!
Blues music and dance encompasses a wide variety of styles, so if you would like to see some examples check out our social media @jutecityblues on Insta and Facebook.
CLASS INFO
🩵Class times: 19:30 - 21:00 (please arrive 5-10 minutes early to ensure you get in) including a bit of social practice after class. Afterwards, join us at the pub!
🩵 Venue: Nilipul centre, 51 Reform street (up the stairs next to Santander).
🩵 All classes are open to all levels, drop in, and you do not need a partner to come along.
🩵 Post class drinks are at a (extremely nearby) pub called The Barrelman to hang out and chat; if you can’t make it to class you’re welcome to join us there.
COST
🩵 Classes are £7 (in cash if at all possible)
🩵 If you are able and would like to pay a bit more to donate to the future of Blues dancing in Dundee it would be immensely appreciated!
🩵 We also offer free/pay what you can spots to those not working or who would find the cost a barrier, no questions asked.
🩵Buy a 5 week class pass at a discount of £25 for 5 classes!
Things to note:
🩵 For footwear please bring along soft soled shoes of some kind, or socks you are willing to move around in to help us care for our lovely venue.
🩵 Blues is a social dance; our classes will involve rotating around participants to let us practice dancing with lots of different people.
🩵 While Blues can seem quite chill please do bring along a water bottle of some kind. 🙂
🩵 Blues is danced often in “close embrace” (chest to chest contact) and while not obligatory we will be encouraging its use, so please double check hygiene before coming along for everyone’s comfort.
Blues dancing is a group of related dance styles that developed in African American communities in the US alongside Blues music and emphasises improvisation, rhythm, and connection to the music and your partner. It is a social dance which can be danced solo, with a partner, or as a group - so there’s something for everyone.
Really looking forward to dancing with you all!
