Our half-day Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed for healthcare and care staff who require mandatory life support training aligned to Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) guidelines.
This face-to-face course is delivered by an experienced healthcare professional and focuses on building the knowledge, confidence, and practical competence needed to respond effectively to life-threatening emergencies.
The session places a strong emphasis on hands-on practical training, with delegates practising core skills using mannequins and training equipment in a supportive learning environment.
What the BLS Course Covers
- Recognition of the deteriorating and unresponsive patient
- Adult Basic Life Support (BLS) in line with RCUK guidance
- Safe and effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Recognition and management of anaphylaxis
- Correct placement of an unresponsive patient in the recovery position
- Introduction to the resuscitation (red) trolley and emergency equipment
- Overview of Paediatric Life Support (PLS) principles
- Team roles, communication, and escalation during emergencies
Practical, Hands-On Training
This is a highly practical course, giving delegates the opportunity to:
- Practise BLS techniques using mannequins
- Simulate AED use safely
- Participate in emergency scenario discussions
- Receive real-time feedback from the facilitator
No previous resuscitation experience is required.

Aim of the Course

Learning Outcomes

- Perform high-quality adult BLS and use an AED safely and effectively in accordance with RCUK guidance
- Recognise and manage anaphylaxis and place an unresponsive patient safely in the recovery position
- Demonstrate an understanding of emergency equipment, escalation processes, and key Paediatric Life Support (PLS) principles
