What is Block Kids? Block Kids is an award-winning national competition. The program challenges children to use their imaginations and find creative solutions to a construction challenge. By introducing young people to construction at an early age, we hope to create awareness and promote interest in future careers in the industry. The winner will advance to the regionals and, hopefully, the national competition! What to expect? Participants are given 45 minutes to build a construction-related project using 75 to 100 blocks, 12" of string, a square of aluminum foil, and a piece of poster board. Past entries include houses, bridges, construction equipment, buildings, etc. Each child will present his/her project to a Building Inspector (also known as a volunteer from our local industry) who will conduct a short informal interview. The Building Inspector will rate the contestant on the creativity of his/her design, use of materials, and oral presentation. All young "builders" will receive a Block Kids t-shirt and goodie bag.
