Josey Rebelle is an increasingly rare breed: an artist who built her reputation solely on breathtaking DJ sets. No social media presence, no production work — an artist dedicated to the art and craft of DJing, as witnessed in countless club appearances, radio shows and compilation albums. Raised within London’s diverse Tottenham and steeped in Caribbean dance music culture, she moves freely across genres and eras — from soul and funk to jungle, bass music, techno and sensuous house. Equally curious about the state of the art and the unearthed gems of the past, she creates striking musical narratives.
London had an equally strong, though different, influence on our next guest tonight: Marco Shuttle. He became involved in the electronic music scene while studying in the British capital, and his sublime, visual approach to sound is often linked to his passion and profession in fashion. No less immersive than Josey Rebelle’s style, his music favours an experimental, leftfield and ocular take on electronic (dance) music — full of depth, rhythm and texture, with a clear penchant for the otherworldly.
