About this Event
The 2026 Black Tech NOLA AI Hackathon & Pitch Event is a two‑part innovation experience in partnership with NSBE Louisiana Zone V designed to empower STEAM college students, emerging technologists, and culture-centered problem solvers across Louisiana. The program began with a high‑energy, one‑day Hack Day (Feb 28) at Southern University in Baton Rouge, where students worked in teams to build AI-driven solutions that protect culture, preserve heritage, and strengthen economic resilience for underserved communities and participated in a "mini' pitch" for $1,000. Participants collaborated with NOLAvate Black staff, engaged in sessions around AI and Product Development, and created low‑fidelity prototypes and MVPs.
Following Hack Day, students will participate in three weeks of virtual technical assistance—including AI fundamentals, design thinking, prototyping support, and pitch preparation—leading up to the statewide Pitch Day at Xavier University of Louisiana for a Final Pitch event (March 25) in New Orleans. Pitch Day features main stage talks, a judged competition, career development programming, and a $5,000 grand prize, and in partnership with Xavier and Dillard University's Spring Career Expo connecting students with employers, industry leaders and ecosystem partners sponsored by Entergy Foundation in Louisiana. The experience bridges hands‑on innovation, cultural impact, and career-connected learning, forming a powerful talent pipeline for AI and emerging tech.
