Based in Jacksonville, Florida, she is dedicated to addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by black women and families in her community. Zay holds a Master of Science degree and has also completed specialized training in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs). In addition to her full spectrum and community-based doula certifications, Zay is also a certified life coach with a focus on Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Hope for the future does not exist for a significant portion of the U.S. population. Weathering, heightened systemic racism and discrimination, microagressions, and marginalization, and racial and ethnic disparities in health and health care are destroying the lives of Black, indigeneous, and other persons of color! The event sponsors, Sister-to-Sister: International Network of Professional African American (Black) Women, Inc. and its partners, are committed to eradicating these disparities, preventable deaths and serious illnesses, including mental illness. They represent public health crises.

As acknowledged by the CDC, 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are presentable. We are working to preserve the lives of Black (and other) pregnant women, their babies, and families. Black women are three to four times more likely than their Caucasian counterparts to die before, during, and after childbirth or experience resulting chronic physical and mental illnesses. Their babies are twice as likely to die before age 1. Postpartum mental illnesses of Black birthing mothers are significantly higher than Caucasian females, and such disorders can lead to suicide and drug overdosing.Indigenous and other females of color are also at high risks of dying, losing their infants, and suffering serious mental illnesses, post-birth.
