About this Event
This workshop explores the powerful and often under-acknowledged role of Black culture in shaping the world of advertising. From the language of cool to visual aesthetics and soundscapes, Black influence has not only informed trends but built billion-dollar brand identities. Together, we’ll trace key moments in advertising history where Black creativity led the charge—both behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
Participants will examine iconic campaigns, interrogate the politics of representation, and unpack how systemic erasure often coexists with cultural extraction. Through group discussion, media analysis, and collaborative activities, this session encourages critical thinking about authenticity, ownership, and equity in the ad world.
Whether you're a creative, strategist, student, or cultural critic, this workshop invites you to rethink who truly moves the culture—and how we ensure credit, compensation, and celebration are part of the conversation.
