About Black Funding Network

Black Funding Network seeks to disrupt the traditional view of philanthropy as centred on a wealthy elite, and instead put the original meaning of philanthropy – the love of humanity – front and centre by asking for donations of any size from those who enjoy giving in the company of others.

We host two fundraising events a year, showcasing 3 organisations at a time, either virtual or in person. In the past two years we have raised a total of £66,000 for 9 organisations, in under 90 minutes. That is what we call a good day’s work!

Thank you to corporate member Reed Smith for hosting this event and to The Funding Network of their continued partnership.

Please reserve a spot or make a donation if you can’t attend - this will be evenly split among the three organisations.

If you wish to make a donation via other means than Eventbrite, please contact us on [email protected].

‘Addressing inequity and racial justice by improving Black underrepresentation and experiences in influential education and workplace environments’

Student, Teacher, Parent & Professional Networking | Events | Anti-Racism Training & Consultancy | Workplace Outreach | 11+ Preparation School

THE NETWORK

ACEN was founded in 2019 by the parents of African Caribbean heritage children, all of whom attend leading academic institutions.

Through our own experiences, and those of other Black parents in our environments, we recognised that our children face a unique set of opportunities, as well as challenges, and we wanted to be proactive in addressing both.

One way in which we sought to do this was to utilise ‘networks’ among parents, teachers, students, and alumni in both education and the working world.

EFFECTING EQUALITY & EQUITY IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY

Recognising the specific Black representation gap in society’s decision-making roles and the interdependencies between those roles with leading academic institutions, we work with schools to actively increase the numbers of Black children in these spaces, aiming to impact on equity in the Black community more widely, now, and over a generation.

Additionally, we work directly with schools to broaden the curriculum and embed policies and controls that improve the pastoral experience of our children in these spaces.

Our Story.

“It started with a random call for help and one woman’s generous response. Now a whole community is enjoying weekly deliveries of Caribbean meals.” -Catalina Imizcoz, Post
