BIPOC Expressive Art Workshop

Embrace Your Story: BIPOC Expressive Arts Workshop invites queer, trans, black, Indigenous people of color (QTBIPOC) adults to embark on a transformative journey through art. This workshop is a sanctuary for self-expression and healing, designed to empower participants by exploring their identities and stories through various art forms. Engage in painting, writing, music, and drama within a supportive, inclusive community. No prior art experience is necessary, only an open heart and the willingness to explore and express your authentic self. Join us to discover the power of creativity in forging connections, celebrating diversity, and nurturing resilience. Together, let's create a mosaic of voices and visions, each unique, yet united in our shared journey of expression and empowerment.

TIMES: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM PST and 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM PST

LENGTH: 1.5 hours

LOCATION: Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your workshop time to allow time to check-in. The check-in tent is located on the east side of Strathcona Park.

AGES: Adults (ages 16 and up), Suitable for beginners and up!

PRICE: $35 per person per workshop

ACCESSIBILITY: The event site is on grass, gravel, and uneven terrain, there is no ramp access to the park. The open-air work setting will have ambient noise, conversational sound levels, and loud areas with the noise of food truck generators. There's a wheelchair-accessible portable washroom on site. We will communicate verbally with members of the public using listening and spoken language in English. Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs.


About the Artist

Adeline Poufong is a queer interdisciplinary artist and expressive arts practioner, born and raised in Ireland. Her mixed-race heritage as the child of an Irish mother and a Cameroonian father has shaped her creative journey and provided a solid foundation for her exploration of cultural identity. Her work is deeply rooted in self-discovery and empowerment and also includes themes of Black joy, Queerness and liberation. Today, Addy’s creative expression is unlimited and she continues to work though various mediums such as paint, ceramics, textiles, video, writing, poetry and sculpture.


~~~ In addition to participating in this workshop, your ticket grants you access to our General Admission Create! Art Zone at Strathcona Park on July 27th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Art Zone features multiple drop-in public art activities, access to the Festival Art Shop, a beer garden, food trucks, and live music presented in partnership with Light Organ Records & 604 Records. To enter the Art Zone, simply show your workshop ticket.~~~~

If you would like to cancel your attendance, we will offer you a refund, provided that you inform us at least 4 days prior to the scheduled event. This is workshop is part of the 4th annual CREATE! Eastside Arts Festival, a week-long, exciting, and immersive arts event this summer, bringing together local artists and the community to explore, learn, and create. The CREATE! Eastside Arts Festival is taking place in Strathcona Park, and in pop up locations including breweries, performance venues, and art studios throughout the Eastside Arts District.

From the producers of the Eastside Culture Crawl, this innovative festival celebrates the diversity of performing and visuals arts in Vancouver’s Eastside, by offering arts workshops, live music performances, a beer garden, public art activations, an art shop and more opportunities for art lovers of all ages and abilities to experience!
