Join Thomas Tobin for an interactive webinar exploring the . In this webinar, we’ll take a deep dive into the “design” side of universal design for learning (UDL). Guideline 6 is about “strategy development,” which is usually framed around the actions that learners take in order to plan, monitor, and control their own learning—all we have to do as designers and instructors is to create starting points and possible pathways for them. But that assumes that instructors and learners are in a differential power dynamic of in loco parentis caregiving—more often the case in K-12 settings. In colleges and universities, our learners are adults with fully developed brains and ways of thinking. Strategy development looks different, includes more actors than just the learners and encompasses larger structures than activities, units, and courses.
