About this Event

'Beyond the Blueprint' forum is coming to Auckland on Wednesday 14 February 2024. This free industry event will showcase the latest projects in New Zealand using digital engineering tools to improve health and safety in construction

Hear innovative case studies from the people who are doing the work, and access cutting-edge industry knowledge in our insightful panel session. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with like-minded peers, exchange ideas, and build valuable relationships.

**It’s important we reach all workers in NZ construction and trade to learn more about H&S in construction so please share and encourage others to attend.**

Speaker lineup:

Case Study: ‘Value Realisation Digital Programme to support health and safety on Infrastructure Projects’
Speaker: Farzam Farzadi, Beca
Detail: In this session, Farzam will present about the crucial role of collaborative procurement models in the infrastructure sector. He will share insights on how data-driven solutions and culture can be implemented to support the improvement of Health, Safety, and Well-being initiatives in delivering a major infrastructure programme.

Case Study: ‘How Can The Health & Safety Person Use BIM To Their Advantage?’
Speaker: Jen Dransfield, Health & Safety Advisor – Naylor Love Canterbury Ltd
Detail: In her presentation, Jen will give a brief overview of how BIM has assisted her in Safety in Design processes during the stabilisation phase of the Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Project and discuss how it has contributed to much safer outcomes for workers on the ground.

Case Study: ACC Ōtepoti Project – ‘BIM: A New Resource For Health & Safety’
Speakers: Christo Erasmus and Mikko Anzano, Steel & Tube.
Detail: In today’s high-tech and evolving market, BIM has become one of the most important tools for the construction sector: from initial concept to end of life of a building. Steel & Tube Reinforcing, as one of the main suppliers of steel products in NZ, has always been fully committed to workplace safety and building a strong health and safety culture. We are now determined to play our part in this evolving market: we have embraced BIM technologies to help deliver better products to our clients while also improving health and safety, from production in our workshops to installation on site.

Case Study: ‘Seeing The Unseen’
Speaker: Robin Findlay, Digital Engineering Manager, Auckland Airport
Detail: Auckland Airport is undergoing significant development right across its campus, involving many interfaces and working in an environment that is often operational 24/7. Being able to see what has been built in the past and what is coming in the future is critical to reducing risks across the multibillion-dollar infrastructure development programme.

In this presentation, Robin highlights some of the work being done using BIM and gaming software to help people see more clearly what is coming in the future and better understand how they will need to operate.

Knowing what sits beneath the surface is critical in improving H&S outcomes during construction by helping to avoid unnecessary service strikes. Robin will share Auckland Airport’s proactive approach in improving the quality and reliability of the information it manages about underground utilities.

Case Study: ‘BIM For Safety On Auckland’s City Rail Link Project
Speaker: Dean Burke, Technical Director – Digital Engineering, WSP.
Detail: BIM has been used extensively in the City Rail Link project in Auckland, including many innovations aimed specifically at improving safety. Project challenges include working underground and in constrained spaces, complex services requirements, a tightly bounded urban environment, and continued occupation and use of connected and surrounding facilities, all of which have made safety management a high priority.

The BIM model provided the visualisations to simulate day-to-day operation and use, and responses to emergency situations. This allows potential hazards and conflicts to be identified and mitigated before they occur in the construction process and during operation of the facilities. It has also been used for the preparation of VR and other training material, assisting train drivers and other key stakeholders to become familiar with the environment.

Case Study: ‘Harnessing BIM for safe Data Centre Design
Speaker: Egor Jivic, Design Manager, Southbase Construction.

Detail: Drone Deploy and Revizto play critical roles in ensuring comprehensive safety measures for Data Centre Design, particularly in eliminating risky manual tasks and addressing diverse end-users’ safety concerns. For example, Drone Deploy’s remote scanning capabilities eliminate the need for hazardous on-site measuring, reducing potential risks to on-site personnel. In tandem, Revizto’s 3D models provide an immersive understanding of the facility, allowing designers to assess safety considerations from the perspectives of various end-users, including technicians, engineers, and visitors.

By combining these technologies, the design process can prioritise the safety needs of all stakeholders, ensuring a safe and user-friendly environment throughout the Data Centre lifecycle.
