Ben Arsenault Album Release Show for "Make Way For This Heartache" Celebrate the release of Ben Arsenault's new album of classic country gems with an all star cast from Vancouver's roots music scene
About this Event

On July 12, 2024, Vancouver, BC based songwriter Ben Arsenault will be debuting his new classic country/americana album "Make Way For This Heartache" live at Vancouver's Fox Cabaret with support from one of the city's best singer-songwriters, Marin Patenaude. Distilled like good whiskey from Ben’s years of experience on the independent Canadian music scene, the songs on "Make Way For This Heartache" are timeless. The album offers a summing up of Ben’s musical journey to date and is a soothing balm of classic country sounds for broken hearts and unfulfilled dreams. Expect to hear those classic country sounds played live at this special album release show by an all star cast of musicians from Vancouver’s roots music scene, including Scott Smith on pedal steel, Darryl Havers on piano, Aiden Ayers on fiddle, Alex Dobson on bass, Josh Contant on drums, and Marin on harmony vocals.

There will be vinyl copies and CDs of the album available at the show. In the meantime, listen to the lead single from the album, "Never Been the Boss", available on all streaming services now, and watch the video on YouTube:

BEN ARSENAULT:

"Make Way For This Heartache" is Ben’s sophomore album and his first to be released with local label North Country Collective, which has put out solo albums by local legends Johnny 99 (City and Colour) and Elliot C Way (The Wild North) and also includes Bob Summer behind the helm. "Make Way For This Heartache" follows Arsenault's acclaimed self-titled solo album, released in December 2022, described as “akin to a phone call from a good friend when you need them most” by Canadian music editorial Dominionated. While Arsenault is best known for his work with Real Ponchos, Vancouver’s long-standing psychedelic country rockers, his solo music has been turning heads of late. Music blog Restless and Real described Ben's music this way:

“If his other band, the Real Ponchos' records owe something to the spirit of The Grateful Dead and early seventies cowboy jam bands, Ben's solo music eschews the improvised musical excursions that define their sound to focus on the simple pleasure of performing really good songs in a heart-felt manner.”

"Make Way For This Heartache" will be available on all streaming services the day before the show, on July 11, 2024. Follow @benarsenaultmusic and @northcountrycollective on Instagram and Facebook for more updates about the new album and other exciting news about Vancouver’s country music scene.

MARIN PATENAUDE:

She will make you chuckle and blush, then she’ll hit you where it hurts. Marin Patenaude’s music is deeply honest, inspired by the wildness and free-spirit of nature, the messiness of human connection, and the overwhelming moments of existence. She’s from a very small town called Horsefly in Northern British Columbia, Canada - A place wrought with song fodder.

The daughter of musical parents, she was raised on folk, country, and classic rock and is very much at home with a piano, a guitar, and all the possible harmonies. Her compositions have classic country undertones with a modern indie twist, supported by the refinement of Classical and Jazz training. Her vocals are compelling and mighty, her guitar distinct, and her content meaningful.

Marin joined Dallas Green's Toronto based label Still Records in support of her second album, Sight Unseen, which shows a louder, grittier side of Marin’s Indie Folk sensibility than her more understated Marin Patenaude & The Follow Through. Citing the influence of artists like Joni Mitchell, Lucinda Williams, Tori Amos, and Neil Young, there’s an underlying darkness beneath the clear, free spirited melodies. It's big and it's not always light.

In 2023 Marin released Sex & Dying on Dine Alone Records. As the title track suggests it’s a journey through navigating two very prominent and impactful pieces of humanity that perhaps the general public find difficult to discuss. Marin has no issues sharing sensitivities. Following the dreadful wave of the poisonous drug epidemic, this album enshrines her many friends taken too soon and her advocacy for safe supply and the destigmatization of drug use.
