Behind The Beat is a music organization dedicated to spotlighting emerging talents in the industry through press coverage, concert photography, blogs, and exclusive interviews. Committed to nurturing a thriving music community, we are thrilled to introduce the "Behind The Beat: Artist Showcase."

This one night event will highlight the vibrant and exceptional talents of three Asian artists from Toronto and its surrounding areas. It marks the debut performance for Chinese-Canadian artist ming. Additionally, we are proud to present performances by S1NE, a South Korean-Canadian artist, and Ashavari, an Indo-Canadian artist.

Described as an “auteur”, multifaceted Mingxuan Gao has spearheaded many projects as a producer and songwriter; including works for Lyle Kam and Eunice Yeung. But amidst springtime in Toronto, another idea bloomed—the act of forgoing the English name he went by in years prior, and reclaiming his legal name, stylized for the artist project as ming, and using the opportunity to re-define his identity. Inspiration sparked with combining indie and R&B, a sound reminiscent of former Bangkok-based duo HYBS. In the studio with Peach Luffe collaborator Kyden Flint, they made his debut single, dedicated to the one that got away, titled Love Again.

As a Korean artist growing up in Canada, S1NE (a.k.a Justin Park) strives to embody the Toronto sound with a new and charming spin on the rich music culture. Using enchanting melodies and dramatic bass, he creates a harmonic blend of haunting sounds and uplifting emotion. With a passion for pushing the boundaries of R&B and an unwavering commitment to authenticity, S1NE envisions a future where his music continues to resonate with audiences globally. His goal is to create an emotional connection through his art, transcending borders and connecting people through the universal language of music.

Ashavari is an Indian-Canadian singer-songwriter hailing from Mumbai and currently residing in Brampton, Canada—a suburb of Toronto. Music serves as a fluid medium, mirroring Ashavari's identity as an Indian-Canadian navigating between cultures. Rejecting societal labels, she uses music and art as a form of self-expression. Embarking on her solo career on October 18th, 2019, with the release of "Pink Afternoon", and following up with her debut EP, BitterSweet (2021), Ashavari has explored a variety of musical genres, ranging from Alternative R&B & Neo-Soul, to R&B-Pop & Dark Pop, with a sprinkle of Electronic, Grunge, and Jazz Fusion.
