About this Event
EASY WALK FOR FAMILIES AND BEGINNERS' WALKERS !
Leafy strolls in the Borough of Redbridge through the Grade II* listed historic landscaped parkland of Wanstead Park, once home to the Palladian mansion of Wanstead House, compared at the time to Blenheim Palace.
TRANSPORT & MEETING POINT
We'll meet at Wanstead tube station from 10:30am and leave the meeting point at 10:40am.
- Distance, Difficulty, Terrain and Elevation plot
- Distance: 8 km (5.1 miles)
- Grading: Easy
- Rating: 1 out of 10
- Hiking time: About 2.5 to 3.5 hours of actual hiking
This walk is covered by our Club's insurance. Our Club is registered on The British Mountaineering Council (BMC)
Today only two smaller structures, The Grotto and The Temple, remain (and the House itself stood on what is now a golf course), but nevertheless, the present smaller park retains some of the layouts of Wanstead House’s grounds, especially its many ponds, and provides a perfect venue for relaxing and escaping the urban sprawl, with its plentiful water features and varied woods.
