Beginner’s Mind Series at The Avalon Tango RoomSound Moves: An Immersive Workshop Exploring Sound and Movement
Makaysha and Justin invite you into an immersive workshop at Ministry of Movement exploring the living relationship between sound and movement.
Through guided exploration and improvisation, you’ll open the body and voice through breath, the source of all sound and movement, and experience voice and movement as intimate, powerful forms of expression. Your full range is welcome here: breath, expression, rhythm, play, rawness, and joy.
As we attune to both internal and external sound, we’ll explore how sound shapes the way we move, how movement becomes sound, and how expression unfolds both individually and collectively. Through dynamic, playful, and ecstatic exploration, sound and movement are invited to emerge naturally from the body.
This workshop is an invitation to weave breath, sound, and movement into one continuous experience, deepening embodied presence and rediscovering the freedom that arises when voice and body move as one.
Beginners Mind is an introductory play-shop series for all of us, regardless of experience or perceived ability. Come practice your fundamentals with experienced, inexperienced, and non-judgmental dance partners. You won’t get it wrong, You are a dancer! It is time to set yourself FREE!

Ministry of Movement Culture Codes: Honoring Our Shared Space
At the Ministry of Movement, we are committed to creating a space of deep presence, connection, and reverence for all who gather.
We honor the role that various "medicines" can play in personal and collective journeys, and we invite our community members to engage with them in ways that are intentional, safe, and free of shame—outside of our gatherings.
When it comes to our Wednesday Night Service, we ask that all who attend uphold the integrity of the space by arriving in and maintaining a state that allows for clarity, connection, and attunement.
If you choose to partake in any "medicine" prior to joining us, we ask that you do so with mindfulness—ensuring that it aligns with the guiding principles of being true, kind, and necessary for both yourself and the collective while maintaining states of clarity, connection, and attunement to yourself and the container.
To maintain a container of safety and sacred presence:
We do not permit the consumption or carrying of any "medicines" during the Service or anywhere on the premises, including the patio.
If someone arrives in a state where they are noticeably intoxicated or unable to remain clear, coherent, and communicative, they will be asked to leave.
These requests are in place to support the well-being of our entire community and to uphold the integrity of our gatherings.
We deeply appreciate your respect and understanding as we continue to cultivate a space of safety, reverence, and collective harmony.
With love and gratitude,
The Ministry of Movement
