About this Event

Join us for Beginner Origami with the Seattle Universal Math Museum, designed for families with children ages 7+ or individual adults - no prior experience needed! Led by origami expert Rona Gurkewitz, this course blends art and mathematics, offering a hands-on approach to geometry, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving. 


The series will take place over the course of 5 Saturday sessions, 1 per month, from August to December. All materials are provided, and each session includes models to fold and take home.


Participants can register for all 5 sessions or drop-in sessions.


Sessions Schedule & Projects:

Each session runs from 10am-12pm.


  • Session 1 - August 2: Name tag, talking dog, and magazine cover box and lid
  • Session 2 - September 6: Simple 16-pointed modular star and star ornaments
  • Session 3 - October 4: Paper cup, octagon modular, and picture frame
  • Session 4 - November 8: Fortune teller and Froebel Folds of Beauty
  • Session 5 - December 6: 3D Jackson Cube, 3D paper chain, and water-bomb cube

Children must be accompanied by a parent/caregiver, who will be encouraged to participate as well to create a shared learning experience.
