Beautiful Poetry and Design: the Gauntlet Press
As part of DesignTO, come to the Arts and Letters Club to hear about and see the Broadsides of Richard Outram and Barbara Howard’s Gauntlet Press. The text on each broadsheet was a poem by Richard and included wood engravings by Barbara, printed on their own hand press on Japanese paper. The work will be presented by Club member Chester Gryski. The Gauntlet Press forms a part of Gryski’s larger collection of Canadian private press/ fine printing collection.
The Club is located in St. George’s Hall, a Toronto landmark, which has a lively history of remarkable colour and vivacity. The building was built by the St. George’s Society in 1891 to the designs of Edwards and Webster with subsequent alterations made by Sproatt and Rolph in the 1920s.
Reservations essential and numbers limited.
