About this Event
Class Description

Instructor: Amber Janelle Brown, VOS Selections

Burgundy is a revered French wine appellation steeped in history. Beaujolais, the southernmost part, just doesn’t get the same respect. But a new movement in Beaujolais is producing mind-blowing wines that are comparable to Burgundy at much friendlier prices.

While technically classified as AOC Bourgogne (Burgundy), the grape variety, fermentation techniques and price points found in Beaujolais are a world apart from its northern neighbors. As is the custom in France, the wines bear the names of their appellation or place of origin. Therefore, wines from this region are known as Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages, or one of ten crus (individual villages singled out for their superior wines). Unlike the rest of Burgundy, where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay reign supreme, 99% of Beaujolais vineyards are planted with the black grape Gamay.

We will examine the new wave of Beaujolais through the wildly exciting up-and-coming producer duo of Sebastian Dupré and Guillaume Goujon (pictured above) of Domaine Dupré Goujon. Their minimal intervention cuvées reveal the nuances of the appellation, and the diversity of the soils, and in the process recreate the identity of each plot. Tria is the first in PA to bring these wines onto a major stage. It will be exciting to measure their next-level Cru Beaujolais against some of the best of the best in Burgundy. To that end, we will be opening killer Burgundy gems rarely seen in PA or on the Tria list.

Who will reign victorious? You will, of course!

Bottles will be available for sale after the class.
