Ever listened to a bat? We’re celebrating the City Nature Challenge with a special evening bat walk in the park… and you’re invited.
As the light fades, we’ll head out into Rowntree park after closing with bat detectors to listen and look for signs of these incredible nocturnal mammals. If we’re lucky, we’ll identify what species are flying overhead and record them on iNaturalist as part of the global City Nature Challenge.
No guarantees, though. Bat numbers in the park have declined in recent years, so it can take patience and a bit of detective work. That is all part of the adventure.
This session is for adults and older children aged 8 and over, with a parent or carer.
The City Nature Challenge is a worldwide four day wildlife “bioblitz” at the end of April, where cities work together in a friendly competition to record as much urban wildlife as possible using the iNaturalist app. Every photo and sound recording helps build real scientific data.
Important: the walk will only go ahead if the weather is dry. If it rains, we’ll move it to another date, likely the following day.
Come and discover what flies above us when the park goes quiet.
