Our Speaker Mr Sasindran Ramar:
Mr Sasindran Ramar is a highly respected consultant general surgeon with over 24 years experience of laparoscopic surgery. He is based at King’s college hospital, London, and specialises in upper gastrointestinal, metabolic and bariatric surgery. Mr Ramar performed the first ever keyhole gallbladder and hernia surgery in 1999
He is renowned for his expertise in bariatric and metabolic (anti-diabetic) surgery and performs laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic gastric band procedures. The other procedures he performs are laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic hernia surgery, laparoscopic hiatus hernia repair and incisional hernias. Mr Ramar has been performing laparoscopic surgery since 1999.
King’s college hospital is a tertiary hospital with complex patients. He is a high volume surgeon in performing metabolic and bariatric procedures. His outcome data is available in the national bariatric registry (NBSR). He has stayed in the top 5 % among surgeons in the UK for the number of metabolic and bariatric procedures performed in the UK in the last few years.
His private clinic is at London Bridge hospital and Circle group hospitals at Blackheath, Chelsfield and Sloane.
Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Mr Ramar maintains an active role in research and has contributed extensively to the field throughout his esteemed career. His numerous academic publications appear in peer-reviewed journals and his current investigations are in diabetic metabolic surgery. He is also a contributing member for large scale studies which are examining the relationship between bariatric surgery and conditions like depression or heart remodelling.
Additionally, Mr Ramar is a leading name in medical education, holding the position of honorary senior lecturer at King’s College London. He is also a clinical and educational supervisor for foundation doctors at King’s College Hospital and with his wealth of expertise in the field, is actively involved in training and teaching numerous medical students.
