About this Event

Come along to the IC on the last Friday of the month (January-March) for these relaxed, hands-on workshops with local community member Yen.

Learn to bake some of Yen’s favourite Australian-Vietnamese dishes. Discover more about Vietnam’s diverse cuisine, which has been influenced by countries including China, Cambodia, Laos, and France.

Join one or more workshops and enjoy a different recipe each month:

  • 30 January - Making Bánh tét chuối (Vegan Sticky Rice Cakes with Banana & Mung bean). In preparation for Tet (Lunar New Year), enjoy these sweet banana- or mungbean-filled versions of traditional ‘chung cake’, symbolising gratitude to ancestors and hopes for prosperity in the new year.
  • 27 February - Making Bánh Hạnh Nhân (Crispy Almond Cookies). These delicious almond cookies are often gifted to family and friends for cultural celebrations, including Tet (Lunar New Year).
  • 27 March - Making Bánh Bông Lan (Vanilla Sponge Cake). Decorate your own ‘Easter Egg’-themed mini sponge cakes and create cake-chicks in a chocolate basket, to take home before the holidays.

All materials provided, no experience necessary. Please bring a container to take your baking goods home.

This program forms part of IC Open Access – Development and is delivered in collaboration with DIVRS.
