"A beautifully shot, delicately moving coming-of-age story... that takes an unexpected detour into magical realism" - New York Times
BIRD, written and directed by British director Andrea Arnold, recently earned an impressive haul of British independent film award nominations.
Arnold returns to the working class with a feral, fantastical drama set in the rundown Kent of her childhood. The tale is told from the viewpoint of 12-year-old Bailey (played by phenomenal newcomer Nykiya Adams) growing up in an unconventional family unit that borders on the dysfunctional.
Bailey lives with her single dad Bug (Barry Keoghan) and brother Hunter (Jason Buda) in a squat. Bug doesn’t have much time for his kids, and Bailey, who is approaching puberty, seeks attention and adventure elsewhere.
