Join Teaching Artist and current Dairy Barn exhibitor, Holly Cole, for this one-day dyeing adventure! In this workshop, students will explore the technique of Ice dyeing- a process that’s a sure-fire way to encourage dye colors to “split”, yielding a beautiful range of color on cloth.
During the Process of Ice dyeing, ice is placed on top of fabric, and dye is sprinkled over the ice; as the ice melts, the dye dissolves and spreads across the fabric, creating a marbled, speckled, or watercolor effect. A range of spectacular patterns and effects are achieved through compressing fabric in different ways.
Whether you clamp, tie, wrap, crumple, or fold, you’ll marvel at the results!
