Awesöme Orchestra will perform my piece, “Shadow Worker: Wind and Sea,” at their end-of-year concert on December 8 at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley. This piece, which I’ve poured so much love into, explores healing, growth, and shadow work.
As a first-generation Asian American with parents who are war refugees, I carry both their beautiful culture and their scars. After 15+ years in therapy, I’ve learned the power of confronting my experiences. This piece is a meditation on trauma, conveying that while shadow work can be challenging, it’s also an act of self-love that leads to healing.
I can’t wait to share this moment with you all—just nine minutes of music for some, but for me, it represents an entire world.
