Meet our speakers!

Kathryn Stewart, PhD is the founder and Executive Director of the Orion Academy, a college prep high school for high functioning teens on the Autism Spectrum. Dr. Stewart has worked with ASD children, teens and families for over 30 years and the Orion program has an established Transition and Internship program that all students participate in to graduate. She will discussing what has led to success for students and what pitfalls are often experienced.

Dr. Helen Chan is a clinical psychologist at Kaiser Permanente specializing in assessments of adults with suspected neurodevelopmental disabilities. She started the adult ASD evaluation program at Kaiser East Bay in 2022 as an effort to remedy the cliff of services that autistic adults face. Helen completed her Doctorate of Psychology degree at The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. Her dissertation examines the costs and benefits of gainful employment for adults with autism, told from the perspective of parent social entrepreneurs that have found businesses to employ them. Prior to becoming a psychologist, Helen has over 15 years of experience in management consulting, marketing, and biochemistry research. Helen holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in chemistry from MIT, as well as Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Public Health Degrees from UC Berkeley. In her spare time, Helen enjoys exercising, eating out, traveling, disability advocacy, and spending time with her three teenagers, one of whom is on the autism spectrum.
