Join us as Liz Evans discusses her book, Catherine Wheel, the genre of psychosocial thrillers, and creating tension in a story.
About this Event

What's the difference between psychological suspense and thriller fiction? And just how psychological is the average thriller? Join former psychotherapist, academic and novelist Liz Evans in conversation with best-selling author and fellow academic Lucy Christopher to find out what it takes to craft authentic psychological tension in the context of a compelling story.

Originally from the UK, Liz Evans is a journalist, author, former psychotherapist, and sessional academic currently based in Lutruwita/Tasmania. She has contributed to the NME, The Guardian, Womankind, Elle, Dumbo Feather, Island Magazine, The Age, TasWeekend and The Conversation among many other titles. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Tasmania where she is now an Adjunct Researcher. Liz is represented by Curtis Brown Australia, and her debut novel, Catherine Wheel, was published in July 2024.

Lucy Christopher works as a Senior Lecturer in creative writing at the University of Tasmania. Lucy is also an author best known for her novel Stolen, which won the Branford Boase award 2010 in the UK.


Parking:

• Maximum 2 hour stay at the library

• Parking in Channel Court shopping complex is maximum 3 hours.

• Don't attend if you are unwell

• Follow hygiene practices eg. hand sanitising

• Let us know if you have any support needs or if a support person will be coming with you.


Accessibility:

• 2 permit mobility parking spaces next to the library - 2 hour parking limits

• Level access, automatic entrance doors, wide doorways and aisles for wheelchairs

• Accessible toilet with a change table for children

• Parenting room in Channel Court shopping centre next to the library
