About Lindsay Turner: Lindsay Turner is the author of the poetry collections Songs & Ballads and The Upstate, and she is a translator of contemporary Francophone poetry and philosophy. Turner is originally from northeast Tennessee and currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio, where she is associate professor of English and creative writing at Case Western Reserve University.
About The Upstate: Set in a landscape of red sunsets and wildfire smoke, Queen Anne’s lace on the roadsides, and toxic chemicals in the watershed, Lindsay Turner’s The Upstate is a book about southern Appalachia in a contemporary moment of change and development. Layering a personal lyric voice with a broader awareness of labor issues and political and ecological crises, The Upstate redefines a regional poetics as one attuned to national and global systems. These poems observe and emote, mourning acts of devastation and raging in their own quiet way against their continuation.
About Joyelle McSweeney: Joyelle McSweeney is a Guggenheim Fellow, the author of ten books, a critic, and a publisher of international literature in translation. McSweeney's recent book, Toxicon and Arachne, was called "frightening and brilliant" by Dan Chiasson in the New Yorker and earned her the Shelley Memorial Prize from the Poetry Society of America. With Carmen Maria Machado, she was the guest editor of Best American Experimental Writing 2020, and with Johannes Göransson, she coedits the international press Action Books. She lives in South Bend, Indiana, and teaches at Notre Dame.
About Michael Dumanis: Michael Dumanis is the author of two books of poems, Creature, a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award and the Vermont Book Award; and My Soviet Union, awarded the Juniper Prize for Poetry; and coeditor of the anthology Legitimate Dangers: American Poets of the New Century. Born in the Soviet Union, he lives in North Bennington, Vermont, and teaches at Bennington College, where he also serves as editor of Bennington Review.
