About this Event
Join Books on Third for an author event featuring Samantha Browning Shea, celebrating her debut novel, Marrow—a searing, spellbinding exploration of femininity, power, and the complicated bonds between mothers and daughters.
Set on a rugged island off the coast of Maine, Marrow follows Oona, who was cast out of her mother’s coven years ago and forced to abandon the witchcraft that was meant to be her birthright. Now living an ordinary life, Oona carries a quiet, aching longing—one that deepens after years of being unable to carry a pregnancy to term. Island lore promises that motherhood will unlock her magic, but without access to medical care, Oona is left with only one option: return to the windswept island she fled, and to her dark, enigmatic mother.
Under the cover of anonymity, Oona enters a world where a powerful coven offers childless women the chance to become mothers. With a celebrity clientele and a long wait-list, the coven seems miraculous—but as Oona’s time on the island grows increasingly harrowing, she begins to sense darker forces at work. The truth, once uncovered, may demand more than she is willing to give. How far will Oona go to claim her power—and at what cost?
Tender and intense, witchy and wise, Marrow is a gripping novel about desire, belief, sacrifice, and what we must release in order to fully live.
