About this Event
The past 18 months have been a long winter for the Left. AugustSchool is a call for us to make this summer the start of a new period of growth and action.
This gathering is a way to bring the city’s socialists back together, to push against the fraying effects of the lockdowns and before them, the loss of confidence brought on by the 2019 GE. We are strongest when we stick by the values and practices of the organised working class: solidarity, discipline, and a commitment to the power of labour to transform the world. Coming together like this is the best way to remind ourselves of our movement’s power.
We've a number of guests already confirmed, including former MP Laura Smith, the incoming chair of IPPR North Christine Berry, socialist economist Joe Guinan, co-editor of Red Pepper Malia Bouattia, author of The Jakarta Method Vincent Bevin, and Marxist educator Paul O'Connell -- in addition to many local socialists embedded in community and industrial organising across Manchester.
A full programme will be announced next week, with discussions on Left strategy, anti-imperialism, and the challenges of state repression post the passing of the Police, Crime and Sentencing Bill.
We can’t wait to see you there!
