ABOUT THE SHOW
In the beginning, Father created the heavens, the earth – and his children, Adam and Eve, who did not listen. Unwilling to resist temptation, they’re cast out of the garden of Eden. After many rebellious generations, their descendant Noah must save a chosen few from the flood when Father is Over It with most of mankind. Inspired by the Book of Genesis, the epic story explores universal themes of family and forgiveness with hope and humor. This uplifting 1991 musical features a beautiful score by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin).
ROLES AVAILABLE
• Father: Male, age 35-55. An older-looking, impressive man. A true father figure, he wants the best for all his children but parents with a firm hand. Protective, loving, and paternal. Baritone (strong, authoritative, resonant). Vocal range: G3-A5.
• Adam/Noah: Male, age 25-35. As Adam: Eve's bright and childlike partner, he is initially devout to Father and loving to his wife and children. Later, he is plagued by guilt. Hard-working and reserved. As Noah: rough but simple. He is unsophisticated and shrewd, but also warm and loyal. He builds the ark to save his family and honor Father. Tenor (lyrical, emotional, clear tone). Vocal range: A3-A5.
• Eve/Mama: Female, age 25-35. As Eve: Curious and questioning, smart and excited. Chose an imperfect life of knowledge over a perfect life of innocence. As Mama: Noah's wife. Inherently motherly and reassuring, she possesses gentle strength and serves as the mediator and matriarch of the family. Mezzo-soprano (warm, rich, expressive, strong belt). Vocal range: G3-A5.
• Cain/Japheth: Male, age 20-30. As Cain: Abel's older, adventurous brother. Follows in his mother's footsteps and longs for the companionship of other humans. He is strong, stubborn, and independent. As Japheth: In love with Yonah and is willing to sacrifice his life to be with her. Noah's youngest son. Clever, rebellious, stubborn. Tenor (rock/pop edge, high-energy, strong belt). Vocal range: B3-A5.
• Abel/Ham: Male, age 20-30. As Abel: Cain's younger and more conservative brother who follows the “rules.” He chooses his parents over Cain. As Ham: Japeth's middle brother and Aphra's husband. He is not as docile as Japheth, nor as hot-headed as Shem. Looks up to and follows Shem's lead. Tenor (youthful, melodic). Vocal range: B3-G5.
• Shem: Male, age 25-35. The oldest of Noah's three sons. Married to Aysha, he is impulsive, strong, and hot-tempered. Vocal range: B3-E5.
• Aphra: Female, age 20-30. Ham's pregnant wife. Longs for the flood to be over and is constantly worrying. Mezzo-soprano/alto (strong, dramatic). Vocal range: B3-E5.
• Aysha: Female, age 20-30. Shem's wife. Cynically bitter and constantly accusing those aboard the ark. Mezzo-soprano/alto (strong, dramatic). Vocal range: B3-E5.
• Yonah: Female, age 20-30. Noah's servant who falls in love with Japheth and becomes his wife. A descendent of Cain, she is strong, yet humble, kind, and smart. Alto/mezzo (sweet, melodic, high mix). Vocal range: G3-G5.
• Young Cain: Male, age 10-13 (from the youth ensemble). The older of the two brothers. Is curious and questioning like his mother. Intense. Child voice (high-energy, clear). Vocal range: B3-D5.
• Young Abel: Male, age 9-11 (from the youth ensemble). The younger of the two brothers. Favors his father in personality. Obedient and devout. Child voice (high-energy, clear). Vocal range: B3-D5.
• Seth: Male, age 10-14 (from the youth ensemble). Adam and Eve's third son and their family's second chance at life. He is innocently adventurous. Child voice (high-energy, clear). Vocal range: B3-E5.
• Ensemble: Eight youth (ages 9+), nine adults. Family members, children, storytellers, animals. All voice types (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) are needed to fill out intricate, choral-style harmonies. Songs range from musical theatre ballads and anthems to pop-rock and gospel-infused numbers, requiring versatile, contemporary musical theatre voices.
PRE-AUDITION WORKSHOPS
There will be two free, optional, pre-audition workshops on Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m. for ages 9-14 and at 5:30 p.m. for ages 15+. Led by director Greg Thompson and music director Justin Davis, this practical workshop is ideal for both newcomers and experienced performers to meet the show’s creative team, learn about the audition process, and practice your audition song and monologue. Bring your sheet music so you can rehearse your audition song. Register for the workshop: https://form.jotform.com/260377479431161
