This is preceded by another piece of Mozartian effervescence, which its composer said should be played 'very fiery' and 'as fast as possible'. Then one of the finest symphonies in the French tradition. Chausson's only excursion into the form covers a dramatic range of emotions, from its exuberant first movement to its entreating close.
