A primary school drama and literacy conference led by teachers, for teachers on exploring creative approaches to literacy learning.
About this Event

Auaha is a dynamic, teacher-led primary drama and literacy conference designed for teachers, by teachers. Created by experienced volunteers from the Drama and Arts education sector, with a proven track record of three successful conferences, this event offers a supportive and inspiring space for educators to explore creative approaches to literacy learning.

Through hands-on workshops, Drama experiences, masterclass demonstrations and panel discussions, participants will discover how drama-based pedagogy can strengthen literacy achievement, boost engagement, and build student confidence and creativity. Teachers are positioned as active learners, stepping into practical experiences while connecting theory with evidence-based research.

The conference is grounded in three core elements:

• Engagment

• Inclusive Practice

• Curriculum Integration

Rather than a 'nice to have', Drama is explored as a powerful, integrated teaching approach. With experienced practitioners from Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia, Auaha offers rich opportunities for reflection, professional discussion, and meaningful connection with like-minded educators.

Special guests include Dr. John Saunders (Australian Catholic University) and Dr. Julie Dunn (Griffith University), world experts in Drama and Literacy Education alongside Professor Peter O'Connor world leader in making and researching the possibilities of the Arts for social transformation. (University of Auckland). Also joining us from Australia is Dr. Marthy Watson, a lecturer in Curriculum and Pedagogy at the University of Southern Queensland.

Join us for an uplifting and professionally enriching experience focused on literacy learning through creativity.
