Session Description: This course will provide an overview of elements of attachment theory that have application for individual and couples therapy. It will include didactic and interactive components and will include a case presentation with prerecorded video. Clinicians will leave with a better understanding of serving clients presenting in a variety of attachment styles.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the basic tenets of attachment theory as it applies to individual and couples therapy
- Apply an attachment frame to the task of gathering client developmental history
- Prepare to serve clients presenting with secure, insecure and disorganized attachment styles
- Assist clients to identify and articulate unmet attachment needs that drive distress cycles
Presenter Bio: David Avruch, MSW
David Avruch, MSW, is a social worker, psychotherapist and researcher based in Baltimore, MD. His private practice focuses on relational therapy for LGBTQ+ couples. He is currently conducting research on the practice of ketamine-assisted couples therapy through UMBC, where he studies in the Department of Sociology. He is also a panel social worker for the Office of the Public Defender, where he works with juveniles who are being charged as adults. Additionally, he has participated in research protocols involving psilocybin- and MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for Sunstone Therapies. He has contributed to academic publications focused on anti-oppressive approaches to social work pedagogy and has served as an adjunct instructor at the Morgan State University School of Social Work.
Workshop registrants will receive a code prior to the webinar to log on to Zoom and participate in the online session.
IMPORTANT: Attendance will be monitored. Participants must be logged on to the meeting by the workshop start time and participate in the entire event in order to earn CE credit.
Pro Bono Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Pro Bono Counseling maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The Maryland Boards of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counselors and Therapists certify that this program meets the criteria for two (2) credit hours of continuing education for social workers (Category 1 ), professional counselors, and therapists (Category A) licensed in Maryland.
CE credit is granted to participants with documented attendance at individual workshops. Attendance is monitored. Credit will not be granted to registrants who log on late or depart early from a session. It is the responsibility of registrants to comply with these requirements.
