Join us on Saturday, 2/22 at 7pm as CCS assistant conductor and South African composer Johannes Visser leads an innovative program exploring the many intersections between music and life as part of the 2025 Intersections Festival at the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street. Join us for an engaging program featuring music that explores cultural traditions from across the world, including: Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances, Black American composer George Walker's 'Lyric for Strings,' a poignant reflection on his grandmother's life in slavery, and Elgar's Enigma Variations.
Featuring an original composition by Johannes, A Winter's Night in Palestine, considers life in Gaza and brings attention to the atrocious pain and suffering that has come from the short-sightedness of politics, divisiveness, and genuine evil.
The concert will run for approximately one hour without an intermission - this is an ideal concert for both newcomers to classical music and those looking for a deeper, more engaged concert experience! Join us after the concert for a free talkback with Johannes.
