About this Event
Astronomy on Tap is is a free public lecture series where astronomers give short, laid-back talks over drinks at local bars. No background in science required — our scientists share cool stuff about space while the audience sits back and relaxes, with plenty of time to indulge their curiosity and ask whatever questions they want.
This month, we're hosting:
Mark Showalter (SETI) - NASA's Exploration of Pluto and Beyond
and
Meredith Wieber (UC Berkeley) - Gamma Vision: Chasing Solar Flares by Balloon
Showalter is a Senior Research Scientist and Fellow at the SETI Institute, having previously discovered several moons and worked on the Cassini/Hyugens mission to Saturn. Wieber pursuing her PhD in Physics at UC Berkeley while conducting research at the Space Sciences Laboratory.
Astronomy on Tap takes place in cities all over the world. This is a revival of the San Francisco chapter, which regularly hosted events before the pandemic. We're excited to be back on a monthly basis!
The event is free, but there is a 1 drink minimum. Food (tacos) will be available with vegetarian options.
