About this Event
Edward Meziani is a Manchester based artist, illustrator & interior designer (BA Hons Interactive Arts 2010, Manchester School of Art)He also runs Black Redstart Gallery, previously at 45 Hilton St January 2025-2026, will be curating works in a new gallery space summer-autumn 2026.
As part of his day job as an interior designer, he helped created Station South back in 2019.He also contributed to the funding of the space with the creation of several illustrations to support the appeal.
A railway obsessive since his days in a pram visiting the East Lancashire Railway to the present day (he volunteers on the BR class 50 locomotive, 50015 Valiant). Meziani has weaved railways into his artwork throughout his entire life.
Exploring the mediums of painting, drawing, installations & sculpture, his work takes inspiration from historical architectural & engineering footnotes in time. He has a particular fascination with the scars left by the Beeching cuts & how infrastructure has developed around former railway routes.
The exhibition depicts Meziani’s railway based creations from Aug 2023-2026. A mixture of passion projects, commissions & illustrations designed to generate funds for specific rail organisations to help preserve specific locomotives.
The original book cover design for his friend Francis Bourgeois, 'The Trainspotter’s Notebook' will also be on display.
3 large scale pieces are to be created specifically for the Station South site. These will aim to celebrate the the rich varied railway history of Manchester's South District Line & The Fallowfield loop.
