SYNOPSIS:
The year is 1997. Ai is forced to enroll in the night school of an elite girls’ high school, but night students are often considered inferior by their day school counterparts. Nevertheless, Ai becomes close friends with her day school desk-mate, Min.
Chuang Ching-Shen’s coming-of-age drama explores the obsession with elitism and privilege in an education system riddled with inequalities while also portraying a friendship between girls whose camaraderie transcend class. In addition to featuring two of Taiwan’s best up-and-coming young actresses in outstanding performances, Chi Chin also shines as Ai’s single mother.
Chuang Ching-Shen, Director
CHUANG Ching-Shen received his MFA from the Dept. of Filmmaking at Taipe iNational University of the Arts. His first feature film High Flash won three awards in the Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (FPP), and was co-produced by Sylvia Chang, Ma Tien-Tsung, and Liao Ching-Sung. It was also selected as the closing film of the 2018 Taipei Film Festival. Another movie The Magnificent Bobita was nominated for Best Makeup & Costume Design and Best Art Direction at the 2019 Golden Horse Awards. In recent years, he has also started making TV series such as The Summer Temple Fair and A Wonderful Journey, both of which achieved high ratings and garnered positive reviews.
