About this Event
Gingi Lee | Sunday 18 January | 10:00 – 12:00 PM | £22
Mysore-style Ashtanga “self practice” is a powerful moving meditation that quietens the mind, strengthens the body, and awakens the inner spirit. This class is ideal for students who have an adequate knowledge of the standing postures of the Ashtanga (Astanga) sequence, as well as those with experience in a self-practice setting. Unlike a led class, students move at their own pace through a memorised sequence, guided by the rhythm of their (ujjayi) breath. The teacher opens with a chant and then works individually with each student, offering personalised adjustments, one-to-one guidance, and new postures when appropriate. Adaptations and modifications are made as needed to support each practitioner.
The self-practice approach offers profound benefits on many levels: increasing energy, strengthening the immune system, supporting healthy weight management, enhancing tone and flexibility, and improving overall strength and balance. Most importantly, it allows students to progress on a deeply personal level with minimal external distraction. The quiet, focused atmosphere helps cultivate a meditative state, guiding practitioners inward toward stillness, clarity, and self-understanding. Over time, the practice becomes truly your own—something you can continue to develop both in the studio and at home.
