In the Vancouver Island Chapter, leadership is more than an administrative duty; it is the rudder that steers our collective expertise through the rapidly shifting waters of the HVAC&R industry. Throughout the 2025-26 term, President Karl Barnett’s message has served as our "North Star," providing a steady heading for a mission rooted in technical rigour and community impact.
Karl’s focus on the "Decarbonization Challenge" was not merely a theme but the strategic foundation for our year’s successes. By evaluating the intersection of building performance and climate responsibility, he transformed our chapter's focus from traditional HVAC design to the leading edge of electrification and low-carbon strategies. This vision ensured that our technical programming remained relevant to the Pacific Northwest's specific energy goals, turning abstract sustainability into actionable engineering.
The Treasure Map: Navigating the 2025-26 Event Circuit
Chapter events are the primary vehicle for technology transfer on Vancouver Island, offering essential "crew-building" opportunities tailored to our unique marine climate. This year, our event circuit functioned as a strategic scavenger hunt, where each stop delivered the technical knowledge required to master modern building sciences.

The Final Destination: June 18 Year-End Celebration at Swans
The June 18 celebration at Swans Pub marks the triumphant end of our 2025-26 quest. This gathering is a vital opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our BoG and the milestones of our membership. Guests will experience the exceptional hospitality of Swans and its local partner brands, including Fort on Fort, Brass Monkey, and Food For Thought Catering, ensuring the year ends on a high note.
During the celebration, we will reveal the "hidden gems" of the term:
