Title:
Ground Improvement for Seismic Resilience: Deep Soil Mixing and Jet Grouting Along the Port of Alaska Shoreline
Presenter:
Supreeth Prasad, EIT, Condon-Johnson & Associates
The Port of Alaska serves as a critical economic and transportation hub, facilitating the distribution of over 90% of Alaska’s essential goods and services. However, the port’s condition has become increasingly critical. Its aging infrastructure is vulnerable to global instability and lateral spreading in the event of a major earthquake. To ensure uninterrupted service to its community, the Port of Alaska Modernization Program was initiated.
In support of future terminal expansion, Condon-Johnson and Associates was retained to stabilize nearly 1500-feet of the port’s shoreline through ground improvement. This presentation will discuss the construction process for installing Deep Soil Mixing and Jet Grout panels, the various quality controls measures implemented, and the constructability challenges with mixing various soil types in The Last Frontier!
Supreeth Prasad has been working with Condon-Johnson and Associates for nearly 3-years, specializing in design-build deep soil mixing, jet grouting, rigid inclusion, and stone column projects. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia and a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Supreeth is an active member of the ASCE Geotechnical Institute Seattle Chapter, where he currently serves as Treasurer.
