About this Event
Artist Jessie Lipscomb (aka Momma Lips Draws) has been an artist all her life with a focused background in various forms of digital art. In 2020, she began her Portrait series focusing on Black Joy, and in 2022, created her "Refreshed" style which captured the joy of her children. In 2023, following a mental break, she took a chance on herself and started painting on a much larger scale. Within a year, her work has been featured in multiple museums, art walks, window displays, and public workshops. Most importantly, she has re-grounded herself in JOY and continues to create from that space.
Moderator Jodi-Ann Burey is a writer and critic at the intersection of race, culture, and health equity. Her forthcoming book "Authentic: The Myth of Bringing Your Full Self to Work" (Flatiron Books, 2025) challenges workplace racism narratives. A TEDx speaker and KUOW-NPR contributor, she hosts "Black Cancer", a podcast highlighting people of color's cancer journeys, and runs "Lit Lounge" programming featuring curated books, author interviews, and poetry events.
