Art of Mockery: Bouffon WorkshopThe Bouffon is a physical theatre character rooted in mockery, exaggeration, and play. Born from ancient traditions like the Satyric Drama and later developed through the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq.
Bouffon invites performers to explore the grotesque, the hidden, and the unspeakable aspects of society. Bouffons do not judge, defend, or take sides. They observe and play. Through exaggeration, parody, and collective energy, they reflect humanity back to itself, revealing what is often avoided or kept in the shadows. Their world contains transformation, rhythm, and wild imagination, where laughter and discomfort exist together. Bouffon exists within collective themes: power, politics, culture, belief systems, and the contradictions within them.

In these three days, we will enter the playful and unique world of Bouffon through physical exercises, games, and group work:
*The pleasure of mockery and the freedom of exaggeration
*The grotesque body: transformation, deformation, and amplification, creating the body as a mask of the Bouffon
*The Bouffon state: presence and “the mocking eyes”
*Group dynamics: chorus, rhythm, and shapeshifting ensembles
*Improvisation and non-linear storytelling
*The relationship between Bouffon, clown, and tragedy
If you are curious to explore a unique anarchic theatrical language, this workshop offers a first step into the world of Bouffon. This workshop is open only to participants who have done at least one Clown or Neutral Mask workshop.
